School Success Truly a Partnership

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 the Albuquerque Journal published a letter from Dolly Juarez, a Co-Founder of Southwest Learning Centers. The letter is reprinted below and can be read at the Journals web site.

Recently, Ruben Navarrette Jr. editorialized about the lack of accountability in American public schools. He pointed to the recent decision by the Obama administration to allow states waivers on several of the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Think Differently (Key Word Being Think)

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011 the Albuquerque Journal published a letter from Daniel Washington, a Southwest Learning Centers senior who resides in Rio Rancho NM in there "Talk of the Town" section. The letter is reprinted below and can be read at the Journals web site.

A FEW WEEKS ago, the Journal published an op-ed piece about the potential of virtual education in New Mexico. The authors, from the Pacific Research Institute, asked the state to eliminate outdated regulations, including class-size and seat-time requirements. Southwest Learning Centers, a charter school in Albuquerque, is actually doing many of the things the authors asked policymakers to consider. Currently the school has more than 4,000 students on a waiting list for approximately 50 openings for the 2011-2012 school year.

State Board Approves 11 Charter Schools.

The following story appeared in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday, September 17, 2011 by Hailey Heinz - Journal Staff Writer.

The state Public Education Commission approved 11 charter school applications this week, and rejected another 10.

Of those approved, five will be in Albuquerque, two in Española, and one each in Peñasco, Gallup, Las Cruces and Moriarty.
